cirenaica perspective
cirenaica is an iconic neighborhood in Bologna built around the time of the Italo-Turkish War of 1911-12, which resulted in the italian conquest of Libya. at first, the neighborhood's toponymy was inspired by the new conquests, but after WWII the streets were named after the heroes of the italian Resistance. once a working-class area full of public housing, today it is a suspended – almost dreamlike – reality where one can feel a vibrant atmosphere that smells of dust and avant-garde, with bars featuring retro aesthetics, artisan shops, artist studios and innovative cultural centers.
to capture the stillness and the ferment of this magical neighborhood – the cirenaica perspective – I explored through the lens its people and local activities.
